ABOUT OCEAN YOUTH
SUMMIT AARHUS

BLUE TRANSITION, IMPACT AND EXPERIENCES

Ocean Youth Summit Aarhus takes place in connection with The Ocean Race Stopover Aarhus from May 30 to June 2, 2023.

We have put together an exciting four-day summit program mixing hands-on learning about the ocean with expert talks, debates, new experiences and the possibility of being a part of an interdisciplinary and international community.

The summit will bring together around 250 participating students from various higher education institutions and young professionals from Denmark and all over the world.

WHY HAVE A YOUTH SUMMIT?

Our marine environments are in crisis due to the way we humans live and have been doing so for the past many years. Today we therefore not only need a green transition but a blue transition, which focuses on restoring marine nature and biodiversity in the sea.

At the Ocean Youth Summit Aarhus, participants will explore and rethink our relationship with the ocean – because blue change is needed now!

A YOUTH CREATED EVENT

The content of the summit is created and facilitated by the Creators team, which consists of Danish students and young professionals with various academic backgrounds who are all passionate about the ocean, sustainable development and youth involvement.

AMBITIONS OF THE SUMMIT

The ocean is calling for a blue transition

Although the ocean is crucial for the well-being and future of both people, nature and the climate, the majority of us only have a superficial knowledge of the ocean and an insufficient understanding of how and how much we affect the ocean and how the ocean affects us back.

With this project,  we want to engage students and young professionals in the blue transition and thereby help to give young people greater knowledge and a stronger awareness of the ocean in order to promote ocean literacy.

Blue transition is a keyword for the Youth Summit because our marine environments are in crisis due to the way we humans live and have been doing so for the past many years. Today we therefore not only need a green transition but a blue transition, which focuses on restoring marine nature and biodiversity in the sea.

The summit is based on a holistic understanding and approach to sustainable development. It is not just about climate and technological solutions. It also extends to people, quality of life and how we live in harmony with the sea. Check out the #6 Themes of the Summit and learn more.
